The New Jersey Chapter of the ADTA is a member organization, composed mainly of dance/movement therapists in NJ, as well as local allied professionals. We are a vital group that promotes professional networking, collaboration, and renewal for our members, and "friends" of the chapter. Chapter meetings and workshops are held regularly, in order to maintain high standards of practice in the field, and to involve all levels of participation - from student to entry-level professional, to the most experienced, seasoned professional.
The Mission of the NJ Chapter is inclusive, expansive, and forward-reaching. We strive to reach out to all dance/movement therapists in our own, and neighboring, states. We are also reaching out to professionals in the other Creative Arts Therapies, and other related fields.
In addition to supporting our members, the chapter's goals include educating the general public about the benefits of dance/movement therapy, through various public relations efforts.
Our national organization the American Dance/ Therapy Association's (ADTA) purpose is to establish, maintain, and support the highest standards of professional identity and competence among dance/movement therapists by promoting education, training, practice, and research. The Association provides avenues of communication among dance/movement therapists and those working in related fields and increases public awareness of dance/movement therapy.
Our organizations serve as a Guardian of Professionalism; our national organization ADTA sets and monitors standards for masters degree programs that prepare people to become Dance/Movement Therapists.
We are approved Continuing Education Provider (ACEP) and may offer NBCC-approved clock hours for events that meet NBCC requirements. The ACEP solely is responsible for all aspects of the program.
